Fashion designer and Foam [magazine] friend Alexandra Cassaniti spends a lot of time in her studio hand making her line of beach-ready bags and neoprene swimwear, but she’s definitely a full-time surfer (in her heart anyway). So it’s no surprise that surf-apparel veteran Billabong asked her to collaborate with them on a limited-edition, self-titled collection of super-soft tees. “Billabong is a really big deal in the surf world,” Cassaniti sys, “a big brand that’s held its own for a really long time and is continuing to get stronger, so I was really excited to collaborate with them.”
The collection was inspired by clothing patches Cassaniti had designed earlier in her career: “Fashion is so fast, and a lot of things get lost,” she remarks, “so it was a way to really showcase each patch individually and blow them up and feature them on shirts.”
The tanks and tees, plastered with phrases such like “New Wave” and “Waves Are Free,” are super comfy and carefree– and that’s exactly the type of girl Cassaniti envisions wearing the line. “A free spirit,” she describes, “someone who laughs a lot, who doesn’t take themselves too seriously. And if they do, they laugh about it.”
